Aaron Rodgers may not have been as crazy as some people thought.
On Wednesday, the New York Jets star quarterback returned to practice and the team now has 21 days to activate him for an official return to the field.
Rodgers has said all along that his goal was to return in December after suffering a ruptured Achilles in the season-opener.
“This entire time I’ve said what I’d like to do rehab-wise,” Rodgers said, via the Jets’ official website. “Neal, my doctor Neal ElAttrache, did kind of a newer, innovative surgery. I asked him if we could push it if we could push it beyond the normal protocols.
“I’ve just wanted to do things quicker, smart, but quicker. It’s just about being smart with the rehab and pushing it as much as I can and then backing off on the days that it doesn’t feel good.”
The four-time NFL MVP underwent surgery on September 14.
The Jets currently sit at 4-7 on the season and remain a longshot to make the postseason as the No. 15 seed in the AFC.
If the Jets are out of playoff contention by the end of his 21-day window, it seems unlikely that Rodgers would return this season. Of course, with a character like A-Rod, he could be prideful enough to make a return just to show everyone wrong.
