With the college football season in full swing, the Maxwell Football Club is continuing to roll out its weekly honors. Following Week 9 of the 2023 campaign, the Maxwell Football Club announced its latest Maxwell Award Player of the Week and Bednarik Award Player of the Week.
The Maxwell Award Player of the Week will be recognized for overall performance on offense, defense, or special teams. The Chuck Bednarik Award Player of the Week, meanwhile, will be honored for outstanding defensive play.
Maxwell Award Player of the Week honors went to Oklahoma State’s red hot running back Ollie Gordon II, who had another dominant performance rushing for 271 yards and two touchdowns. Gordon added four catches for 21 yards in the Cowboys’ dominant win over Cincinnati.
With his stellar performance, Gordon joined Barry Sanders as only the second player in program history with back-to-back games of 250+ rushing yards — as well as becoming the only Power Five player with multiple 200+ yard games this season.
Defensive honors, meanwhile, went to Texas A&M linebacker Edgerrin Cooper, who recorded 7 tackles, 2 TFL, 1 sack, 1 PBU, 1 fumble recovery, and a career-high 4 quarterback hurries.

Maxwell Award Player of the Week: Ollie Gordon II, RB, Oklahoma State
Oklahoma State University running back Ollie Gordon II has been named the Maxwell Award Player of The Week after their dominant performance against Cincinnati. Gordon had an exceptional showing, rushing for 271 yards and two touchdowns on 25 carries, and tallied four catches for 21 yards for a total of 292 all-purpose yards. The sophomore from Fort Worth, TX would also join Barry Sanders as only the second player in program history with back-to-back games of 250+ rushing yards. As well as becoming the only Power Five player with multiple 200+ yard games this season; eclipsing 1,000 rushing yards in just eight games. Oklahoma State University is back in Stillwater, OK to take on the Sooners this Saturday, Nov. 4 at 2:30 p.m. CT.
Bednarik Award Player of the Week: Edgerrin Cooper, LB, Texas A&M
Texas A&M linebacker Edgerrin Cooper has been named the Bednarik Award Player of The Week after taking down South Carolina. The 6’3 230 junior had a standout day with 7 tackles, 2 TFL, 1 sack, 1 PBU, and 1 fumble recovered. Cooper would also set his career high for hurries with 4, as well as mark the fourth time he had multiple TFLs and at least 1 sack across five SEC games. The Aggies are on the road next weekend to face Ole Miss this Saturday, Nov. 4 at 12:00 p.m. ET.
