Gregg Popovich was not holding back when it came to his feelings regarding recent comments made by Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr.

Wembanyama was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft by the San Antonio Spurs, and the generational talent has already been putting on a show in the preseason. Most recently, Wemby put up 19 points in the Spurs’ 122-117 win over Golden State on Friday night.

The Frenchman has been delivering a plethora of highlight reels leading up to the start of the NBA regular season, and Kerr said that Wembanyama has “rejuvenated” the 74-year-old Popovich and brought new energy to the Spurs organization.

Pop wasn’t having any of that, and let it be known that he thinks Steve Kerr is an asshole.

“What was I being rejuvenated from?” Popovich asked. “Was I in a mental institution or was I depressed and curled up in my bedroom or something?”

Of course, Pop was joking around about his friend and started to laugh after he made his comments. And when it comes to Wembanyama, it appears that the rookie has quickly built a good relationship of his own with his new head coach.

“This is how I also recognize how good of a person he is,” Wembanyama said, via the San Antonio Express-News. “He just learns. He just learned to know me, quicker than almost anyone I’ve met in my life before.”

Wembanyama, Popovich, and the rest of the Spurs will get their 2023-24 regular season campaign underway on Wednesday, October 25, when they host Luka Doncic and the Mavs.
