The Kentucky Wildcats had a massive opportunity to take a step toward becoming a playoff contender when they met the Georgia Bulldogs last Saturday. However, dreams of taking that next step were soon met with a nightmarish situation as the Bulldogs handed the Wildcats a 51-13 defeat.
The loss was demoralizing for a program that felt they had a real shot at competing with the number one team in the country. It’s a loss that head coach Mark Stoops and the program are probably going to feel for the rest of the season.
On Monday, Stoops didn’t hold back his thoughts on why Georgia took his Wildcats to the woodshed.
Kentucky’s Mark Stoops answer to fan’s disgruntled with the football team.
“I can promise you Georgia, they bought some pretty good players. You’re allowed to these days and we could use some help, that’s what they look like these days when you have 85 of em. I encourage… pic.twitter.com/a8bPi81f6B

A frustrated Kentucky fan asked Stoops on his weekly radio show what it might take for the Cats to finally compete with the Georgia’s and Alabama’s of the world. Stoops’ response was one of a frustrated coach who sees his program may be at a ceiling that can’t be broken unless they can find a little more help.
“I can promise you Georgia, they bought some pretty good players. You’re allowed to these days and we could use some help, that’s what they look like these days when you have 85 of em. I encourage anybody disgruntled to pony up some more,” Stoops fired back to the fan.
Yes, NIL is changing the way college athletics are being played. Players are now getting some of the pie and have every right to search for their biggest piece.
However, a coach making $9 million a year, asking fans to “pony up” more of their cash to help the program, isn’t the exact words they want to hear after such an ugly loss.
Stoops has built a legacy that will live far beyond his tenure in Lexington. The school should already be planning where his statue will be placed.
However, his statement on Monday isn’t sitting well with many in the Big Blue Nation.
The Wildcats will have a chance to right the ship when they welcome Missouri to town this Saturday. But a loss on Saturday will once again have these comments in the spotlight for another week for Stoops.
