The Detroit Lions got off to a hot start in the opening game of the 2023-24 NFL season, and they’ll look to build off of that momentum in Week 2 for the team’s home opener.

Detroit will be hosting the Seattle Seahawks at Ford Field, and one Lions player has a unique request.

Lions defensive back CJ Gardner-Johnson is calling on fans to wear blue face masks to the home opener and his reasoning is incredible.

Gardner-Johnson wants fans to wear blue ski masks for the game.

“You’re gonna see on Sunday. Blue ski masks everywhere,” Gardner-Johnson told reporters this week. “We villains, right? It’s part of us. It’s the culture. I’m changing it. We taking what’s ours.”

Gardner-Johnson wore a blue ski mask in the Lions’ upset win over the defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium in the team’s season-opener as he walked out of the tunnel.

The 25-year-old, who was the NFL co-leader in interceptions last season, also brought up the ski masks on social media.

This would be awesome, and create an amazing atmosphere at Ford Field, so let’s hope that the Lions fans come through.

Gardner-Johnson signed a one-year, $8 million with Detroit in the 2023 offseason after his lone year with the Philadelphia Eagles, whom he helped reach Super Bowl 57.

Kickoff between the Lions and Seahawks on Sunday, September 17, is set for 1:00 p.m. ET on FOX.
