Virginia Football Player Out For Year After Celebration Gone Wrong (VIDEO)

A freak injury will sideline Virginia defensive tackle Olasunkonmi Agunloye for the remainder of the 2023 college football season.

According to Cavaliers head coach Tony Elliott, Agunloye suffered the injury during Virginia’s loss to Tennessee in Week One while celebrating on the sideline.

Agunloye, who recorded the team’s only sack of the game, was celebrating a fumble recovery when he high-stepped to the sideline.

After a misstep, Agunloye fell to the ground and suffered a brutal injury. Per Elliott, Agunloye suffered a torn patellar tendon in both of his knees which will cause him to miss at least a full year.

It’s an awful injury and made even worse by the circumstances. There was nothing that could have been done to prevent the injury because, well, it was simply a fluke.

Now, Agunloye will have to focus on his recovery for the foreseeable future.

Up next for Virginia is the team’s home opener at Scott Stadium against James Madison on Saturday, September 9. Kickoff is set for 12:00 p.m. ET.
