Dabo Swinney and the Clemson football program had a rough start to the 2023 season on Monday night with a 28-7 loss to the Duke Blue Devils at Wallace Wade Stadium in Durham.

The Clemson offense found success with 422 yards of total offense, but it was crucial turnovers in key situations that led to their downfall.

Clemson had two fumbles within the 10-yard line and an interception on the night, which opened the door for Duke to run away with the game. Afterward, Swinney sounded off on the “incredibly disappointing loss” in the opener.

“An incredibly disappointing loss, that’s honestly, all my years of football, I’ve never been a part of a game like that. Ever,” said Swinney after the game.

“Been here at Clemson a long time. Since I’ve been the head coach, we were 58-0 when we rush for 200 (yards) and pass for 200…. I think in Clemson history, we were 108-0. Never lost. Ever.”

It was a tough start to the 2023 campaign for Swinney and Clemson, but it’s a long year ahead and the Tigers will have some time to turn things around.

Clemson will have its next opportunity to get into the win column on Saturday, September 9 against Charleston Southern at Memorial Stadium in the Tigers’ home opener.
