Chris Mortensen, the original NFL inside, is stepping away from ESPN.

On Tuesday, September 5, Mort took to social media to announce that he has decided to step away from the Worldwide Leader in Sports to focus on his “health, family, and faith.”

Mortensen had been at ESPN for more than 30 years, joining the network in 1991.

“Excited about another season but it’s time to reveal after my 33rd NFL draft in April, I made a decision to step away from ESPN and focus on my health, family and faith,” Mortensen wrote.

“The gratitude and humility is overwhelming. It’s not a classic retirement. I’ll still be here talking ball. It’s just time. God Bless you all.”

Throughout his tenure, Mort has contributed to Sunday NFL Countdown, SportsCenter, the NFL Draft, and more.

Over the past few years, Mortensen has been battling throat cancer, but he continued to make appearances on ESPN and break major news.

Now, he can finally put his phone down and enjoy the game like the rest of us.

Thanks for the memories, Mort.
