Markéta Vondroušová has put her name in the history books.
On Saturday, the 24-year-old Czech won her first Grand Slam title by defeating 2022 runner-up Ons Jabeur, who was the No. 6 seed, to become the first-ever unseeded woman’s champion in Wimbledon history.
Vondroušová won in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4, at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club.

Both sets were tied at 4-4 before Vondroušová broke Jabeur in the fifth game and went on to serve for the set and match.
Vondroušová, who is ranked 42nd in the world, takes home a cool $3.1 million for her victory. Jabeur, meanwhile, takes home $1.5 million as the tournament’s runner-up. Last year, Jabeur lost in the final to Elena Rybakina.
In her previous Wimbledon appearances, Vondroušová was a mere 1-4, but during this year’s impressive run, she went 7-0 en route to winning the Venus Rosewater Dish.

On her journey to the final, Vondroušová faced some stiff competition and knocked out No. 12 seed Veronika Kudermetova in the second round, No. 20 Donna Vekic in the third round, No. 32 Marie Bouzková in the Round of 16, No. 4 Jessica Pegula in the quarterfinal, and the red hot Elina Svitolina in the semis before ultimately defeating Jabeur in the final.
