The NHL’s First ‘Big City Greens Classic’ Was A Perfect Display Of What Sports Can Be

The NHL hosted the first ‘Big City Greens Classic’ last night when the Washington Capitals and New York Rangers met on the ice. Now if you’re wondering what Big City Greens means, have no fear. A recent Google search told me that Big City Greens is a popular animated Disney show. In turn, NHL fans were gifted with their first animated game, where the goalies looked like characters from The Simpsons.

The Big City Greens Classic was absolutely beautiful. Everything about the broadcast is exactly what sports are meant to be. Fun. The NFL has given us games on Nickelodeon, and the NHL has now found its perfect companion with the Big City Greens Classic.

Seriously, if you were hating on this last night, you need to re-evaluate your life. I’m blessed not to be saddled with a toddler, but I would imagine if I were, I could trick them into watching a sporting event if they were on display like the Big City Greens Classic. The goal for every major sport is to get a younger audience involved in their respective sport. The NHL hit a home run with this one. Or is it a goal? Anyway, more of this, please.
