On Monday, the Ole Miss Men’s Basketball program made waves after the team announced that former Texas Longhorns head coach Chris Beard is now running the show in Oxford. Beard was relieved of his head coaching duties earlier this season in Austin after his arrest on Dec. 12 for third-degree domestic violence for an alleged incident with his fiance in which she has since disputed many of the statements from the police report.
According to Lorenzo Reyes of USA Today, the charges Beard faced have been dropped:
“Travis County (Texas) District Attorney José Garza on Feb. 15 determined the charge of assault by strangulation/suffocation-family violence could not be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.”
Chris Beard has been named the newest HC at Ole Miss. Beard has a record of 237-98 (.707) in just 10 years of coaching with success at every stop including (McMurry, Angelo State, Little Rock, Texas Tech, & Texas). Beard led Texas Tech to the National Title game in 2019. pic.twitter.com/amAXF1jWm3

Beard will replace Kermit Davis as the head man at Ole Miss. Davis was fired just before the start of the 2023 SEC Tournament. Davis spent five years in Oxford, leading the Rebels to two winning seasons and one tournament appearance (2019.)
Beard has been revered as one of the hottest coaching names in the last handful of years. Leading Texas Tech to a Final Four appearance in 2019. Beard spent the last year and a half at Texas with an overall record of 29-13 and one NCAA Tournament appearance. The current head coach of Texas, Rodney Terry, is brining the Longhorns into the Big Dance with a 19-7 overall record under him and a Big 12 Conference Championship.
