Interim no more. On Thursday, February 16, the Boston Celtics officially announced Joe Mazzulla as the team’s head coach, removing his interim label.

Mazzulla becomes the 19th head coach in franchise history.

Along with the removal of Mazzulla’s interim tag is a new contract. Details of the deal have not been announced at this time.

Mazzulla was named interim coach after the Celtics suspended former head coach Ime Udoka for the season due to “violations of team policies.” The decision came after reports of an allegedly improper relationship with a female member of the staff.

The Celtics currently sit at 42-17 on the season; the best record in the NBA.
