Patrick Mahomes says head coach Andy Reid wanted to ensure the Kansas City Chiefs players did not lose any focus during halftime of Super Bowl 57.

Reid apparently barred players from leaving the locker room to watch Rihanna’s halftime performance, saying the coach threatened to bench any player who would.

Mahomes told the story during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live.

“Coach Reid told us, he said, ‘If you go out to watch the performance, just keep walking, because you’re not playing the rest of the game,'” Mahomes said.

It turned out to be the right move.

The Chiefs were trailing the Philadelphia Eagles by 10 points at halftime. While the team wasn’t among the reported 118.7 million people who tuned in to watch Rihanna’s show, they were able to put together a phenomenal second-half performance and get the win.

They may have missed the show, but they’ll be getting their own diamonds when their rings come in later this year.
