Philadelphia Eagles fans better not count on climbing light poles throughout the city if the team is able to beat the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Championship Game on Sunday.
In anticipation of a potential rowdy celebration in the streets, Philadelphia police have begun greasing light poles.
“We will be instituting the practice of greasing poles’ as a deterrent for climbing poles and light fixtures,” a police spokesperson told FOX 29. “We encourage everyone to celebrate safely and responsibly.
“Many of the preparations that have been undertaken mirror similar events that have occurred in the past with the Phillies’ NLCS celebrations as the most recent example.”
The police department will also be adding additional officers on Sunday to help control the rowdy crowds and ensure there is enough backup in case things go awry.
Kickoff between the Eagles and 49ers at Lincoln Financial Field is set for 3:00 p.m. ET on Sunday, January 29. The game will air on FOX, and if the Eagles come away with the win, the night will be young and there will be plenty of time for celebration. Just don’t expect there to be any pole climbing.
