A Jacksonville Jaguars player took a shot at former head coach Urban Meyer while praising second-year quarterback Trevor Lawrence and head coach Doug Pederson following the team’s comeback win over the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday.

Jaguars safety Andrew Wingard was praising Lawrence and Pederson and telling the media how happy he was for the former No. 1 overall pick’s growth — which was initially stunted by Meyer’s disastrous tenure in Jacksonville.

“I’m just, like, so happy for Trevor, because he had to deal with Urban Meyer last year as a rookie, and I don’t even know if he had a rookie year. And to see the growth he’s made, not just on the field, but his preparation, his demeanor, all that,” Wingard told Action Sports Jax. “I’m so happy for him.”

Meyer’s time in Jacksonville was a constant distraction filled with off-field issues until he was finally fired after a 2-11 start to the season.

Pederson was hired in the offseason and has helped turn around the culture in Jacksonville, bringing some excitement and energy to the franchise that has shown plenty of promise and has a roster that is loaded with talent.

Wingard says that Pederson has made the Jaguars’ locker room a great place to be.

“I would die for Doug Pederson, I swear. I would run into battle for Doug Pederson, 100 percent. I love the guy,” Wingard said. “We come into work, we keep working, we keep chipping away, and eventually it’s going to pay off and it did today. The feeling in the locker room was awesome. I love this team.”

The Jaguars may only be 4-7 on the season, but it is clear that the franchise is on the right trajectory and the players finally believe in their head coach.
