If you were busy watching football yesterday or living under a rock, you missed quite possibly the most remarkable move in NASCAR history. Ross Chastain, the driver of the #1 Trackhouse Racing Chevrolet, was watching his chances of making the final four for the NASCAR Series Championship dwindle away in the last laps of yesterday’s race at Martinsville. With his back against the wall, Chastain pulled off a move that would make Ricky Bobby proud to continue his quest for his first championship.

For Chastain to advance to the next round, he needed to finish in front of Denny Hamlin, a driver that was already less than friends with the watermelon-smashing Chastain. Chastain gave everything he had, pulled off a move that had never been done before in the sport, and jumped five spots ahead, passing Hamlin right before the finish line. An unbelievable move that will more than likely never be duplicated.

After the race, Chastain stated that the GameCube could’ve been the inspiration for his gutsy move on the track. Chastain had this to say on the inspiration for the move,” Played a lot of NASCAR 2005 on the GameCube.” First off, playing a racing game on the GameCube should be a sin. Always play racing games on a PlayStation. That’s a no-brainer. Whatever the case may be, Chastain is moving on to the Championship Round next week when the NASCAR finale takes place in Pheonix. Who will bring home the 2022 crown of the NASCAR Series?
