The latest wrinkle in the Brett Favre welfare fund scandal involves a little-known concussion cream that the former NFL quarterback promoted during a FOX News appearance in February 2020.
According to Front Office Sports, Favre used money from the Mississippi welfare funds to help with the development of the cream. Prevacus, the company behind the cream, received about $2.2 million of federal welfare funds which would have been illegal under the rules for Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF).
“Prevacus is a company that is going to treat concussions, but we also have a pre-game cream, PreVPro, which is available now,” Favre said of the product at the time. “You apply it on the neck. It’s a cream. A concussion is inflammation of the brain, which is bad. It adds some relief for six hours. It’s pretty neat.”
Experiments during the development of the cream reportedly led to the death of multiple dogs.

Thousands of dollars of the TANF funds were diverted from Prevacus’ original concussion treatment to develop the PreVPro cream.
However, it was never actually produced in mass quantities to be sold to the public, in spite of multiple animal experiments that led to the deaths of at least a half-dozen dogs.
Investigators in recent weeks have delved more into Favre’s role in getting those TANF funds, which were funneled from Mississippi Department of Human Services (DHS) through a non-profit and, finally, to Prevacus.
“He knew [the Mississippi welfare agency] money was going toward developing the cream,” a source told the outlet.
Favre, Favre Enterprises, and Prevacus are all named as defendants in a lawsuit filed by Mississippi Department of Human Services as they attempt to recover the misused funds.
In recent months, Favre has been in the headlines for all of the wrong reasons with welfare funds reportedly being used to finance a volleyball arena and football facility at Southern Miss University. Favre has yet to be charged with any crimes linked to the scandals.
