Josh Primo’s sudden release from the San Antonio Spurs came as a shock this week, but now we are learning more information about what ultimately led to the former NBA Lottery pick getting released.
According to reporting from ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne and Adrian Wojnarowski, the Spurs’ release of Primo stemmed from “multiple alleged instances of Primo exposing himself to women.”
The 19-year-old Primo was the No. 12 overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft.

“I know that you all are surprised by today’s announcement,” Primo said in the statement after his release. “I’ve been seeking help to deal with previous trauma I suffered and will now take this time to focus on my mental health treatment more fully. I hope to be able to discuss these issues in the future so I can help others who have suffered in a similar way. I appreciate privacy at this time.”
Primo will become a free agent on Monday afternoon after clearing waivers, so it will be interesting to see if any teams take a flyer on the promising young player.
Of course, any team that takes on Primo would need to do more research into the situation that led to his shocking release.
Primo averaged 5.9 points in 54 career games for the Spurs.
