A parachutist has died following an accident during pre-game festivities at the Musket Bowl high school football game in Tennessee. The Musket Bowl is the annual rivalry game between the Daniel Boone Trailblazers and David Crockett Pioneers.

The skydiver’s parachute appeared to malfunction prior to his landing which caused him to come crashing down just outside of the stadium fence at an unsafe speed, according to SBLive.com.

“Our deepest sympathies go out to the family of the injured skydiver that has passed away,” Washington County Schools Superintendent Jerry Boyd told WVLT 8. “We ask that everyone keep the family in their thoughts and prayers as they deal with the loss of a beloved husband, father and grandfather.”

Boyd said mental health services will be available at the high schools on Monday.

A moment of silence was held after the accident, and the parachutist was flown to Johnson City Medical Center before passing away from the injuries.

Our deepest condolences go out to the parachutist during this tragic and difficult time.
