Week 1 of the 2021 college football season is in the books, so the weekly honors are beginning to roll out. For South Carolina Gamecocks punter Kai Kroeger, that meant adding a piece of hardware to his trophy case for a strong effort in a win over Georgia State.
This week, the Augusta Sports Council and Ray Guy Award announced Kroeger has been named the Ray Guy Award Punter of the Week for the Week 1 games.
Kroeger punted 7 times during the game against Georgia State for a total of 344 yards. His gross average was 49.14 yards and finished with a net average of 46.29. Four of his punts ended up inside Georgia State’s 20-yard line and he had a long punt of 79 yards.
The Gamecocks beat Georgia State, 35-14, and will return to action this weekend when they hit the road for an SEC showdown with the No. 19 Arkansas Razorbacks.
NOTE: Players awarded the Ray Guy Award Punter of the Week are not guaranteed as semifinalists for the award.
