Tom Brady will be away from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for the foreseeable future to “deal with some personal things,” head coach Todd Bowles told the media on Thursday.
Brady is expected to return after the team’s Week 2 preseason game against the Tennessee Titans on August 20. Bowles said the absence was discussed before the team reported for training camp.
“This is something we talked about before training camp started,” Bowles said, as transcribed by ESPN.com. “We allotted this time because he wanted to get in and get chemistry with the guys and go through two weeks of training camp, knowing he wasn’t going to play the first two games.

“He didn’t want to take away reps from Blaine [Gabbert] and Kyle [Trask], as well as ‘Griff’ [Ryan Griffin] going into these next two games, knowing it’s something he needs to handle.”
Bowles said that he is confident Brady will be the starting quarterback for the Buccaneers in their regular-season opener against the Dallas Cowboys.
