Naomi Osaka is ready to take business into her own hands and take complete control of her career on and off the court.
On Wednesday, Sportico reported that Osaka has left IMG in order to launch her own sports agency. The agency, which will be launched along with her agent Stuart Duguid, will be named EVOLVE.
Both Osaka and Duguid will have equity stake in the agency, and there are no outside investors at this point.
“I’ve spent my career doing things my way, even when people told me that it wasn’t what was expected or traditional,” Osaka told the website in a statement. “Evolve is the natural next step in my journey as both an athlete and businesswoman, as well as a way to continue being myself and doing things my way.
“I’m excited to start this with my business partner Stuart and our plan is to use the same approach we took in building my businesses authentically and strategically as a vision for this company. I strongly believe in the power athletes have to use our platforms to drive meaningful business.”
Osaka is currently the 20th highest-paid athlete in the world in 2022 with earnings of $53.2 million.
By launching EVOLVE, Osaka is breaking down barriers as the first woman at this level to attempt to launch her own agency and take total control of all business opportunities.
