Taysom Hill has been a do-everything player for the New Orleans Saints, lining up at quarterback, running back, wide receiver, tight end, and special teams throughout his time with the team.
The Saints briefly attempted to play Hill as a full-time quarterback, but now his focus will be on another position for the 2022-23 NFL season.
With the Saints re-signing Jameis Winston to be the team’s quarterback, Hill will be focusing on the tight end position for the upcoming position to give him more opportunities to make plays with the ball without taking Winston off of the field.
“A lot more of the F tight end, move tight end type of role. I think that’s the direction that we need to move with him, because I think he may be one of the better players in the league in that role,” Saints head coach Dennis Allen said of Hill’s role in 2022, via Saints reporter Katherine Terrell of The Athletic.
“If Jameis is out there playing quarterback, I don’t like Taysom standing next to me on the sideline. I think you’ll see him more in that type of role.”
Allen made the comments at the league meetings in Florida on Tuesday.
Last season, Hill threw for 978 yards, four touchdowns, and five interceptions, while adding 374 rushing yards and five scores on the ground. Hill also hauled in four catches for 52 yards.
