John Shuster, a five-time Olympian and defending gold medal men’s curling team skip, will make history as flag bearer for the Opening Ceremony of the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing.
Shuster will become the first American curling athlete to carry the United States flag to start the games.
“Being elected as one of the flag bearers is a tremendous honor,” Shuster said in a statement. “When thinking back to my Opening Ceremony experiences, I cannot help but be so proud to lead Team USA into an Olympic Winter Games.
“Joining the incredible group of Team USA leaders, especially since it was chosen by my Team USA teammates, is one of the greatest honors of my sporting career.”
Brittany Bowe, a three-time Olympian in Bobsleigh, will be the co-bearer for the ceremony which takes place on Friday, February 4 at National Stadium.
The 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing will kickoff on Friday, February 4 with the Opening Ceremony and run through Sunday, February 20.
