As the college football season rolls on, the Maxwell Football Club continues to announce its weekly honors. Following the latest weekend of the 2021 campaign, the Maxwell Football Club announced its latest Maxwell Award Player of the Week and Bednarik Award Player of the Week.

The Maxwell Award Player of the Week will be recognized for overall performance on offense, defense, or special teams. The Chuck Bednarik Award Player of the Week, meanwhile, will be honored for outstanding defensive play.

This week’s Maxwell Award Player of the Week went to two players who had outstanding performances in Ohio State quarterback CJ Stroud and Alabama‘s Bryce Young, the Heisman front-runners. Stroud threw for six first-half touchdowns, while Young threw for for 559 yards, five TD passes, and no turnovers in his game.

Defensively, North Carolina State linebacker Drake Thomas picked up the weekly honors.

Additional information on the Week 13 Player of the Week winners can be seen below.

Maxwell Award Co-Player of the Week: QB C.J. Stroud, Ohio State

For young players, in-season development is crucial to success. And Stroud’s progression since September has been as pronounced as any underclassman in the country this fall. He’s been especially brilliant in back-to-back blowouts of ranked opponents, Purdue and Michigan State. This past weekend versus the Spartans he was in total control and nearly perfect in a 56-7 victory. The redshirt freshman deftly completed 32-of-35 for 432 yards, six first-half TD passes and no interceptions.

Maxwell Award Co-Player of the Week: QB Bryce Young, Alabama

Young dropped dimes all day to receivers John Metchie and Jameson Williams in a historic performance that wrapped up the SEC West for the Crimson Tide. There was no quit in Arkansas Saturday in Tuscaloosa. But Young got better every time the game drew closer. The sophomore completed 31-of-40 for 559 yards, five TD passes and no turnovers. Young smashed the school single-game passing yards record that had stood for 52 years.

Bednarik Award Player of the Week: LB Drake Thomas, NC State

Wake Forest lost at Clemson. NC State took care of Syracuse. And with one weekend left, the Pack remains in contention for the ACC Atlantic Division. Thomas has more than picked up the slack from the second level since veterans Payton Wilson and Isaiah Moore were lost to season-ending injuries. The sophomore playmaker had a 38-yard pick-six and a game-high eight tackles versus the Orange, including 2.5 for minus yards and a couple of sacks. Thomas earned a 91.7 grade from Pro Football Focus, tops among all Power Five linebackers in Week 12.
