As the college football season rolls on, the Maxwell Football Club continues to announce its weekly honors. Following Week 8 of the 2021 campaign, the Maxwell Football Club announced its latest Maxwell Award Player of the Week and Bednarik Award Player of the Week.

The Maxwell Award Player of the Week will be recognized for overall performance on offense, defense, or special teams. The Chuck Bednarik Award Player of the Week, meanwhile, will be honored for outstanding defensive play.

This week’s Maxwell Award Player of the Week went to Purdue wide receiver David Bell, who hauled in 11 catches for 240 yards and a touchdown.

Defensively, Alabama linebacker Will Anderson picked up the honors after recording six tackles, including six sacks, in the Crimson Tide’s big win over Mississippi State.

Additional information on the Week 8 Player of the Week winners can be seen below.

Maxwell Award Player of the Week: WR David Bell, Purdue

Leave it to Bell to save one of the best games of his Boilermaker career for one of the best defensive backfields in college football. Iowa began the weekend ranked No. 2, while leading the nation in interceptions. But the Hawkeyes had no answer for Bell. The silky-smooth junior from Indianapolis dissected Iowa for 240 yards and a touchdown on 11 catches, while helping lead Purdue to a stunning 24-7 upset victory.

Bednarik Award Player of the Week: LB Will Anderson, Alabama

There are a few ways to derail a Mike Leach passing attack. This past weekend in Starkville, Anderson went for the approach that never allows the opposing quarterback to set his feet in the pocket. The sophomore was a wrecking ball versus Mississippi State, with four of his six tackles being sacks of Will Rogers. It was just the third time ever that a Bama player had four sacks in a game, and the first since the late great Derrick Thomas did it in 1988.
