As the college football season rolls on, the Maxwell Football Club continues to announce its weekly honors. Following Week 4 of the 2021 campaign, the Maxwell Football Club announced its latest Maxwell Award Player of the Week and Bednarik Award Player of the Week.

The Maxwell Award Player of the Week will be recognized for overall performance on offense, defense, or special teams. The Chuck Bednarik Award Player of the Week, meanwhile, will be honored for outstanding defensive play.

This week’s Maxwell Award went to UNC quarterback Sam Howell, who joined Lamar Jackson as the only Power Five players to record 300 yards passing and 100 yards rushing in consecutive weeks. In the air, Howell proved he is one of the top passers in the nation with 419 yards and five touchdowns.

Defensively, Notre Dame star defensive back Kyle Hamilton picked up the honors for his standout performance against Purdue, recording 10 tackles, two pass breakups and one interception.

Additional information on the Week 3 Player of the Week winners can be seen below.

Wait, and he’s got wheels too? Howell, one of the premier passers in the country, has run for more than 100 yards in each of the last two weekends. And in so doing, he joined Lamar Jackson as the only Power Five players to ring up 300 passing yards and 100 rushing yards in consecutive games. In Saturday’s pivotal ACC showdown with Virginia, Howell accounted for 419 yards and threw five TD passes, two to emerging star receiver Josh Downs.

Covers like a corner. Hits like a linebacker. Pursues like an elite safety. There are all kinds of reasons Hamilton is one of the game’s premier defensive backs and a future high NFL draft pick. In Saturday’s 27-13 win over Purdue, he twice kept the Boilermakers off the board, once on a game-sealing interception in the end zone and again on a textbook open-field tackle on fourth-and-short. Hamilton finished with 10 tackles, two pass breakups and the one pick, while grading out among the weekend’s top safeties, according to Pro Football Focus.
