“The Nature Boy” is a free man. Ric Flair reportedly requested his release from his WWE contract and had it granted after buzz was building that a “big name” would soon be released by WWE.
Fightful.com confirmed the news, along with Wrestling Inc.
“According to sources close to the situation, Flair requested the release and it was granted, effective today,” the reports read.
Flair was most recently involved in a WWE storyline with Lacey Evans and his daughter, Charlotte Flair, earlier this year but Evans became pregnant and was removed from television. Flair was open about the fact that he was not a fan of the storyline but WWE boss Vince McMahon overruled him.
As for what is next for Flair, there is plenty of speculation that the 72-year-old could join rival company AEW where old friend Arn Anderson and future son-in-law Andrade have signed in recent months.
Pure speculation, but Ric Flair must see the appeal of how AEW books legends as managers.
Arn Anderson, Tully Blanchard, Sting, Jake Roberts etc. are all featured on weekly TV and helping talent.
Plus his history with TNT & TBS. Feels like a no brainer to me.#AEWDynamite #AEW pic.twitter.com/TLQ735xnhy
