Major League Baseball’s Cleveland Indians have officially changed the team name.
On Friday, July 23, Cleveland took to social media to release a promo video announcing the new team name. The video, which was narrated by actor Tom Hanks, reveals that the team will now be known as the Cleveland Guardians.
The video did not share when the name change will go into effect, but MLB.com reported that it will be in place next season and shared a first look at the logos.

The name is a nod to Cleveland’s “Guardians of Traffic,” which are the well-known Art Deco statues on Hope Memorial Bridge which crosses the Cuyahoga River near Progressive Field.
