Joe Rogan is the latest prominent voice to speak out against Sha’Carri Richardson’s ban from the Tokyo Olympics which stemmed from a positive marijuana test following the U.S. Track and Field Olympic Trials last month.
The comedian/UFC commentator/podcaster discussed Richardson’s ban on the latest episode of his wildly popular Joe Rogan Experience podcast with guest Brian Simpson.
Rogan said the ban was “100 percent horsesh*t” and ripped into the Olympics for their decision.
“All the winners of the gold medals, all those people that are generating insane amounts of wealth for the Olympics, they should get a giant piece of that,” Rogan said. “They’re responsible for the reason why people are watching the Olympics.
“The networks are making it (money) and the IOC is making it and all these other people are making it and the athletes, the whole reason people are tuning in, they get nothing. It’s insane! It’s a disgusting, corrupt system.”
It’s no surprise that Rogan, an avid smoker of marijuana, took this stance, but it is a common belief that there must be changes made within the testing standards.
Unfortunately for Richardson, who was favored to win the gold in the 100-meter race, she was also left off of the United States team for the 4x100m relay, after a final decision by the USA Track and Field board of directors.
The good news, however, is that Richardson is just 21 years old and is keeping a positive attitude while promising to come back better than ever.
The Olympics officially kick off on Friday, July 23, and will run through Sunday, August 8.
