Serena Williams’ Wimbledon campaign has come to an abrupt end.
During her first-round match against Aliaksandra Sasnovich, Williams slipped on the court and had to get medical treatment. After returning to the court 10 minutes later, an emotional Williams attempted to fight through the on-court injury.
Williams’s movement and power were clearly hindered by the injury, and her tearful exit came as she attempted to find her serve.
Ultimately, Williams was unable to continue and forced to retire from the match in the first set with the score tied 3-3.

Williams is a 7-time Wimbledon champion and is in pursuit of her record-tying 24th grand slam title. Unfortunately, the 39-year-old will have to wait.
