Who are the most hated teams in the NBA?
Ahead of the official start of the NBA Playoffs, sports betting website BetOnline.ag conducted a survey and infographic that shows which teams on social media have received the most negative comments and feedback.
When it was all said and done, it was the Brooklyn Nets that came back as the most-hated NBA team across the country with half of the states returning a majority of negative feedback.
“The combination of Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving and James Harden seems to have been enough to finally flip country’s hatred of the Los Angeles Lakers. The only difference is the Lakers are also one of the league’s most loved teams…with most of this sentiment arguably coming just from the love or hate of LeBron James,” BetOnline.ag Brand Manager Dave Mason said.
“It’s interesting to see the New England area switch from being perennial Lakers haters to Nets haters, and Kyrie Irving probably has a lot to do with that. All in all, it’s safe to say that a lot people don’t like to see these teams win.”
Here is a full breakdown:
- Nets – 25 states
- Lakers – 21 states
- 76ers – 2 states
- Celtics – 2 states
The survey was conducted by examining geotagged Twitter data during the last month. BetOnline tracked tweets, hashtags and direct keyword phrases about the NBA team fans dislike the most.
For example, it collected data from phrases such as, ‘I hate the Lakers’ or ‘The Nets are the worst’ and so on. More than 90,000 tweets were tracked over a 30-day period.
