Shuttershock

Geno Hayes, a former NFL linebacker, has passed away at age 33.

Hayes’ health had been deteriorating in recent weeks which ultimately led to his transfer to hospice care, according to WCTV in Tallahassee.

The 33-year-old was battling liver disease for the past two years and had been hospitalized over 20 times in the last year. Hayes also suffered severe weight loss, dropping 70 pounds because of the disease.

Throughout his NFL career, Hayes had stints with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Chicago Bears, and Jacksonville Jaguars.

Hayes starred at Florida State before becoming a sixth-round pick in the 2008 NFL Draft. He would go on to appear in 101 games with 401 total tackles, 10 sacks, six interceptions, and six forced fumbles.

Our deepest condolences go out to Hayes’ family and friends during this incredibly difficult time.
