Dak Prescott has more than 125 million reasons to be smiling, guaranteed.

On Monday, March 8, news surfaced that the Dallas Cowboys have come to an agreement on a mega-contract for their star quarterback. Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network was the first to report the news.

According to Rapoport, Prescott and the Cowboys agreed to a four-year deal worth up to $164 million. The deal includes $126 million in guaranteed cash.

As an added bonus, Prescott gets a no-trade clause and no tag provision in his new deal.

It’s an absolute blockbuster contract for the signal-caller, who is coming off of a serious injury that prematurely ended his 2020 campaign.

Prescott underwent surgery in October to repair a compound fracture and dislocation of his right ankle. Prescott suffered the injury in Week 5 of the regular season.

Prescott was playing on the one-year, $31.4 million guaranteed franchise tag at the time of his injury.

Despite the injury, the Cowboys and owner Jerry Jones made the decision to invest in Prescott as their starting quarterback for the foreseeable future.

“His evolving into an NFL quarterback has been nothing short of a perfect picture. He has great ability in my mind to win games. He’s talented. He certainly has experience. And so he has all the things, as substantiated by what we’ve offered Dak. You wouldn’t be offering Dak what’s been offered him in the past had you not thought he was very special,” Jones told the team’s official website following his surgery.

“The issue is how do you come together, and that’s no stranger to me. I’ve been doing it all my life. I got here putting things together. And we’ve got to put it together.”

Now, we will have to see if the Cowboys made the smart investment on their quest to return to playoff relevancy and another Super Bowl.
