It’s hard to believe that it’s been one year since Kobe Bryant and his 13-year-old daughter Gianna were killed in a tragic helicopter accident on their way to a basketball game at Mamba Academy.
Other victims in the crash included Alyssa Altobelli, Keri Altobelli, John Altobelli, Christina Mauser, Payton Chester, Sarah Chester, and Ara Zobayan.
On the one-year anniversary of Kobe and Gigi’s deaths, Vanessa Bryant took to social media to share an emotional post along with a letter from one of Gianna’s friends.
“If I ever become a mom, I hope my daughter turns out exactly as yours did,” Gigi’s friend Aubrey wrote to Vanessa. “She was kind, caring, and endlessly polite. I am so, so blessed I got to have time with your angel of a daughter, and thank you for giving me that chance.”
Vanessa also responded to the letter with a caption remembering Gigi and Kobe, while shedding light on the heartbreak she continues to feel to this day.
“Today I received this sweet letter from one of Gianna’s best friends, Aubrey. I love you Aubz (as my Gigi would call you). Thank you so much for beautifully sharing some of your memories of my Gigi with me and allowing me to share them here on my ig. My Gigi is INCREDIBLE and I truly appreciate your thoughtful letter,” Vanessa wrote.
“She loves you so much. I miss my baby girl and Kob-Kob so much, too. I will never understand why/how this tragedy could’ve happened to such beautiful, kind and amazing human beings. It still doesn’t seem real. Kob, we did it right. Gigi, you still make mommy proud. I love you!”
Rest in peace, Kobe, Gigi, and all of those who tragically lost their lives one year ago today. They continue to be greatly missed.
