Incoming F1 driver Nikita Mazepin’s future could be in jeopardy after posting an “abhorrent” video to Instagram live which showed him groping a woman in the back seat of a car.
Mazepin, who is currently a driver in F2, was set to join Haas F1 Team next season.
That could now be in doubt after his actions.
“Haas F1 Team does not condone the behavior of Nikita Mazepin in the video recently posted on his social media,” a statement from the team read. “Additionally, the very fact the video was posted on social media is also abhorrent to Haas F1 Team. The matter is being dealt with internally and no further comment shall be made at this time.”
In the video, the woman can be seen swatting Mazepin’s hand away from her body before flipping a middle finger to the camera.
Mazepin has since apologized for his actions.
“I would like to apologize for my recent actions both in terms of my own inappropriate behavior and the fact that it was posted onto social media,” Mazepin said in a statement on his Instagram story.
“I am sorry for the offense I have rightly caused and to the embarrassment I have brought to Haas F1 Team. I have to hold myself to a higher standard as a Formula 1 driver and I acknowledge I have let myself and many people down. I promise I will learn from this.”
Mazepin finished the 2020 F2 season in fifth place.
