As per the latest developments, the New York Jets have been awarded an additional pick for the NFL draft in 2020. This addition has come as a pleasant surprise for the team, and it is because of a discrepancy found in the conditions of a trade that happened in late August last year.
The Jets are looking forward to the upcoming NFL draft during the off-season time, with the team continuing its roster rebuilding, bringing in a lot of young talent. Furthermore, the additional draft they have got as a result of the terms related to Nate Hairston’s trade earlier in the season not being met, is expected to help them immensely going forward. Hence, people who actively bet on the NFL draft can be excited upon this information, and place their punts accordingly.
Hairston performed reasonably well for Jets
The news of the additional pick was reported by Brian Costello of the New York Post recently. It should be noted that the Nate Hairston transfer happened because of a trade entered into with the Indianapolis Colts in August last year, as per which the Jets had sent a conditional pick for the sixth round in return. As of now, it’s not clear which all terms and conditions weren’t met.
It’s worth noting that Hairston got six starts in the 11 games he was there with the NY Jets. He also tallied the second interception of his career during the Jets’ hard-fought 22-21 win over Miami Dolphins in the Week 14. If looked at closely, Hairston played fairly well for a major part of the season. However, his run was broken by inconsistent play and frequent injuries. The player is still contractually bound to the New York Jets for the 2020 season, however, he will need to make his way back into the roster through some solid performances in the preseason games.
Jets have been lucky time and again
The original acquisition of the additional sixth-round pick was from Kansas City Chiefs through a trade which sent Darron Lee to the Super Bowl champions. Resultantly, NY Jets will now receive overall two picks during that round.
On the whole, the Gang Green will now receive eight picks during the 2020 NFL draft; this will include a couple in the third round and zero in the seventh. The lost seventh pick is because of Alex Lewis swap done with Baltimore and the extra pick in the third is due to the Leonard Williams trade.
It should be noted that the extra pick awarded for the sixth round isn’t something ground breaking and new. The New York Jets have found some decent luck with the late round flyers involved in that round. Recently in 2019, the team snagged Blessuan Austin, the cornerback, with 196th overall pick during the sixth round. Not just that, the Rutgers player performed exceedingly well in his rookie year and could very well be the mainstay at that position going forward.
