College GameDay, which started in 1987, has been going on location to universities since 1993, starting first at South Bend for Florida State-Notre Dame, the only on-location visit that year for the show. There were six stops in 1994 and then the rest is history. Florida-Florida State remains the most featured matchup (9 times); Auburn-Alabama has 7; and Ohio State-Michigan has six.
Lee Corso’s been there from the beginning with Kirk Herbstreit starting on the show in 1996. Rece Davis took over for Chris Fowler in 2015 and Desmond Howard joined the show in 2005.Funnies GameDay signs on the Internet / via Twitter
I’ve been to probably over a dozen GameDay stops over the years, sometimes managing three stops a year when the Big Ten was an ESPN product. My favorite GameDay stop still has to be LSU with Ole Miss a close second for best environments. West Virginia was wild, but the setting wasn’t ideal because it was by the student union, not exactly close to the football stadium.Lou Holtz gameday sign / via Busted Coverage
