Lee County, Alabama wants to know why Harvey Updyke isn’t paying the restitution he owes Auburn for poisoning the beloved Toomer’s Corner oaks. The county says Harvey has paid $200 over the last year on his $800,000 bill. Meanwhile, Harvey’s been on Facebook this month mentioning how he’s moving out of an apartment to a more expensive trailer because his current landlord won’t let him have his dog Coco.
I know, it’s a giant clusterfucc down south where this guy pretty much continues to taunt an entire university and its graduates on a weekly basis. Now the county is firing back by hauling Harvey’s ass into a courtroom to make him answer for his lack of payments.
In 2013, Updyke was handed a three-year split sentence with a five-year probation period and was later ordered to pay just under $800,000 in restitution to Auburn University in monthly installments.
Hughes said Updyke has paid less than $5,000 and frequently misses monthly payments, especially now that his probation has ended.
“Harvey Updyke has never left my radar. We have been keeping an eye on his payments or more specifically, his non-payment, and he has made exactly two payments for a total of $200 in the past year. Because of that, we have bee looking for him for close to a year, and we finally found him,” Hughes said.
The problem for Lee County here is that Harvey’s (allegedly) been in and out of the hospital all year. He’ll probably die soon & then I don’t know what happens to his estate if there is one. Lee County District Attorney Brandon Hughes might as well fight with the guy until he dies. It’ll be great politically in that part of the state where Auburn’s located.
