What happens in the NFL when you have great hair, you’re a rookie head coach and you have the No. 1 overall draft pick in this year’s draft? You’re going to get April Fool’d by another young NFL head coach with great hair and one trip to the Super Bowl on his resume. That’s right, Sean McBae got Kliff Kingsbury with a cruel April Fool’s Day joke that included a phone and a modified caller ID to appear that it was Roger Goodell calling.
We have a mutual friend that I put his name in my phone as Roger Goodell. I had this friend send me a text saying, ‘I can’t believe you’re at dinner with Kingsbury and Mahomes. You know better than this. This is tampering. You’re both losing picks.’
“I showed Kliff the text, and he saw a ghost. I said, ‘You better call [Cardinals GM] Steve Keim right away.’ He said, ‘I thought I was going to lose the No. 1 overall pick.’
Seems a little harsh, McBae. Idk, this could fall under some new anti-hazing NFL policy now that we’re to the era of NFL head coaches raised on anti-hazing policies at their college frats. I picture Schefty slapping his leg — legit slapping, not faking it — as Sean is telling him this story. Just think of this life Schefty lives as an Insider®. He has to laugh at all the jokes, can’t just have a night or weekend where he does nothing but slam beers with his friends and play indoor golf. Seems miserable.
