Shane Lowry Plays A Shot Out Of Trash Dump At Abu Dhabi Tournament

via Twitter

Shane Lowry shot a 10-under 62 — a course record — at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship today, but the round is about to go viral for reasons other than the course record because on the Par 4 5th hole, Lowry played a shot out of what appears to be a resort trash pile. That’s right, the trash pile was close enough to the course for Shane to find it with his drive off the 465-yard 5th tee box.

Shane handled business on that hole, saving par and going on to drain seven birdies after this little adventure into the dump. Aerial photos of the course show us that the 5th is on the boundary at the Abu Dhabi Golf Club and appears to be next to a road that runs next to the course. The course looks really nice and includes the option to play at night when it’s not 130 degrees in the desert. It’s just that Lowry found the scrap heap and now it’s going to be a screenshot passed around the world. You hate to see if for these high-end golf courses. Not the best look.

Looks like Shane still managed to par the 5th even with the trash heap next to him:

Looks like the white building might be a spot where the Abu Dhabi golf course guys throw away junk from the hotel and clubhouse:
