It sounds like we had ourselves an Anchorman-style fight in Charleston, WV, but the big news from this TV anchor fight is that the two combatants work/worked on the same 4 p.m. newscast. Erica Bivens (news anchor) and Chelsea Ambriz (weather anchor) from WSAZ allegedly ended up in a bar fight after Ambriz hit on Bivens husband this past Saturday night and, according to FTVNews, Bivens suffered a fractured skull in the throwdown.
Hope you got all of that. It’s quite a bit to process, but the police report should paint a clearer picture for you. From the Charleston (WV) police report via FTVNews:
Upon my arrival to the scene, my complainant/victim was in bed 13 and was identified as Erica Bivens. Erica stated that she had been out for The Girl’s Night Out Celebration that was held at the Charleston Civic Center earlier that night and then her husband [redacted] decided to go out for more drinks afterward. Erica went on to say that they ended up at the Broadway bar on Leon Sullivan Way and ended up running into a co-worker (Chelsea Ambriz) of Erica’s. Erica advised that she had problems with Chelsea in the past as far as her being aggressive toward her. Erica said that her and her husband didn’t think anything of it until later in the evening Chelsea began to hit on Donald. Donald told Chelsea that he was not interested in her and went back over and stood with Erica. Donald mentioned to Erica about what had just happened with Chelsea and so Erica went and confronted Chelsea about it. Erica said that Chelsea then became irate and began to shove Erica causing both of them to fall over in the bar area.
Erica told me that her ear drum had been busted in her left ear which was causing it to bleed and a large knot on the side of her head. She advised me that she would be having a EKG scan done while at the hospital to see if there was anymore internal damage.
Officer Adam Douglas ended his report with a request for summons on Ambriz on a battery charge. Her profile is still live on the WSAZ website where it says, “I love the challenge of forecasting but when not following the weather, I like to paint, play tennis and travel. I’m excited to be in West Virginia with my old, fat cat Bert and explore what the tri-states have to offer!”
This just goes to prove that when the TV people act like they are best friends, it’s just TV. Ask around, most of the time at least a couple of them can’t stand each other. Remember, TV people are people who wanted to have entertainment careers and got as far as a local TV station.
One other thing, this was an old fashioned Big Ten fracas. Bivens went to Michigan State; Ambriz is a Purdue product.
