Welcome to the green zone.
On third downs, see just how far players will have to go at any point during the play to get a first down. pic.twitter.com/cCLdkdLjls

The yellow line that indicates to fans how many yards teams need to get a first down gets the job just fine. In fact, it’s one of the few things football fans don’t bitch about while watching games these days, but apparently the folks over at NBC have decided it does not suffice, so they went ahead and came up with the “Green Zone.”
We’ll allow Al Michaels to sell you on this gimmick:
We are going to paint an effect around the area that the team has to go to get to the first down line. We know the yellow line is great. It’s been around for a lot of years but this will show you exactly how far he has to go at any point in the play.
You didn't even know that you needed a "Green Zone" to watch NFL games, did you! pic.twitter.com/1JBcNkmP7X

Truly silly considering, you know, the yellow line already does the same damn thing. Also why is it reserved for just third downs? Shouldn’t needed first-down yardage be an every down thing? But hey, what do I know… I’m just some blogger who hates everything.
At least Colin Cowherd likes it (of course):
I like the Green Zone. Good idea. I’m sure Twitter will react w thoughtful nuance for its debut. #snf
