Are there any other white dudes the Patriots can bring in to play receiver? We only ask because Eric Decker, who signed with the Patriots in early August, took to Instagram Sunday to announce his retirement from football.
“I know now it is time to hang my helmet up and start a new chapter in my life,” Decker said in his statement.

It has been my childhood dream and my passion to play the game of football. I was very fortunate and blessed to have had the opportunity to have those dreams fulfilled and to have played with such extremely talented and hard-working teammates, coaches, and staff. This has been a passion inside of me since I was a little boy but I know now it is time to hang my helmet up and start a new chapter in my life. I love football and always will. It will continue to be a part of my life. I’m looking forward to spending more time with my wife and kids. I want togive a special thank you to all my family, friends and fans for all your support on this incredible journey. It’s been an amazing chapter in my life. I look forward to the future and many adventures ahead!

Decker didn’t do much during his brief run with the Patriots, catching two passes for 12 yards and reportedly struggling with drops. He was unlikely to make the Patriots’ final roster, so he made the decision to pull the plug himself.
The Minnesota product played for the Broncos, Jets, and Titans in his career and recorded three seasons with over 1,000 yards receiving. His best years came in 2012 and 2013 catching passes from Peyton Manning.

Decker will now get to spend more time with his wife, Jessie…
