Cardinals pitcher Austin Gomber’s first career start went pretty well Tuesday night, as he allowed two runs and struck out in six in six-plus innings. In fact, Gomber was able to get through 6 1/3 without allowing a hit against a stout Reds lineup. What did him in? A duel against Joey Votto, who singled off him in the bottom of the seventh.

Gomber’s lost no hitter seems like an open and shut case, but there was some shadiness during the seventh with the fire alarm going off at Great American Ballpark. There was a small five-minute stoppage before Gomber could warm up — no word on whether it was a Reds fan who pulled the alarm.
Not gonna lie, I don’t hate the move if it was indeed a fan behind the delay… whatever it takes!
