Iowa Football Player Mistakes Police Car For His Uber, Gets Arrested and Suspended For Some Reason

Pro tip: Don’t ever mistake a police car for an Uber or Lyft while hammered, or you might get arrested. Iowa defensive lineman Brady Reiff is aware of that now after he was arrested early Saturday morning for that exact blunder.
That’s right, UI police booked this guy for public intoxication despite his attempt to get home safely. Sure he was super drunk, but this seems like a needless arrest.
From The Gazette:

Accused of public intoxication, Brady Reiff, 22, a starting defensive tackle for the UI football team, approached a parked UI police cruiser on Iowa Avenue at about 2 a.m. and attempted to open the vehicle’s passenger door, according to UI police.
When Reiff noticed there was a rider sitting in the passenger seat, police said he moved to the back door and attempted to open it.
When asked what he was doing, police said Reiff asked for a ride home. “He thought that was our job,” the police report states.
When asked if he thought the vehicle was an Uber, police said Reiff replied “Yes.”

How pissed was Reiff? He registered a .204 on his breathalyzer test — .07 is the maximum legal limit in Iowa, so yeah, he had a bit to drink but it really shouldn’t matter if he’s not endangering anyone’s lives.
If the arrest isn’t bad enough for Reiff, head coach Kirk Ferentz suspended the kid for the season opener. Clearly all of this could have been avoided if Reiff made the irresponsible move of driving home drunk.
