Japanese Babe Ruth Shohei Ohtani has been MIA for the past two weeks with a Grade-2 UCL sprain in his right elbow. The Angels are hoping PRP treatment can save Ohtani from Tommy John Surgery, like it did Garrett Richards and Masahiro Tanaka, but results won’t be known until Thursday at the earliest per MLB.com.
That means another four days without him, but until then we can dream on… Shohei Kershaw? Japanese media has footage of Ohtani messing around during a workout this weekend and throwing lefty:
Obviously he’s super raw and nowhere near Pat Venditte status, but just look at the bite on this pitch. You could talk me into the absurdly terrible idea of Ohtani adding switch pitching onto his already tough workload as a two-way player.
Ohtani owned a 3.10 ERA in nine starts as a pitcher, and a .289/.372/.535 slash line with six home runs before the baseball gods ruined the fun. His Rookie of the Year campaign is now in limbo due to this injury, plus Gleyber Torres showing out with the Yankees.
Running, one-handed swings, pitching lefty are the only things Shohei can do these days:
