I’m not sure how Robbie Williams keeps getting jobs in the soccer world, but there he was today/tonight in Russia performing during the opening ceremony of the World Cup and going middle finger to the billions of people around the world, most of whom aren’t Americans. I guess it’s a way to make headlines and test whether the Russian military will kill a celebrity during the soccer tourney.
From the Evening Standard:
Williams, 44, performed to a crowd of 80,000 at Moscow’s Luzhniki Stadium in a leopard print suit on Thursday ahead of Russia’s first match against Saudi Arabia.
He kicked off his storming set with his 1998 hit Let Me Entertain You before he was joined on stage for a duet of Angels with opera singer Aida Garifullina.
But as he brought the ceremony to a close with his number one hit, Rock DJ, he flipped his middle finger at the cameras.
Guess Fox Sports didn’t broadcast the ceremony because I didn’t see Twitter lose its mind over a simple finger. The real question here is, how doesn’t Russia have a homegrown performer to handle opening ceremony duties?
This guy wasn’t available?
