Forget Aaron Judge. Forget Giancarlo Stanton. It’s Didi Gregorius who is the toast of New York at the moment with his blistering start to the season. The Gregorius One is up to nine home runs on the season and is slashing a ridiculous .372/.465/.833 through 23 games, stats that have Yankees fans anointing him the best shortstop in all of baseball. It’s an extreme position to take given Carlos Correa, Manny Machado, and Andrelton Simmons exist, but he does lead all shortstops in WAR so it isn’t that wild at the moment.
What is, however, is the USA Today’s Bob Nightengale likening the acquisition of Gregorius from the Diamondbacks to Babe Ruth. Seriously.
The New York #Yankees always thought their greatest trade in franchise history was stealing Babe Ruth from the #Redsox. The Didi Gregorius heist from the #Dbacks is now entering the discussion. The dude is hitting .364 with 9 homers, 29 RBI and a staggering 1.290 OPS

If Skip Bayless ever talked or tweeted about baseball, I’d imagine this is something he’d send out. The Babe was acquired for freakin’ cash considerations from the Red Sox and put up like nine 10-win seasons with the Yankees. As for the Diamondbacks, they ended up with a front-of-the-rotation strikeout artist in Robbie Ray… I’d say they aren’t crying over this.
Move over Babe Ruth!
.@DidiG18 has homered in 4 straight games …
