The Best Story Of The Draft Continues, Shaquem Griffin Gets Invite To Dallas

After the combine ended, this story kind of took a back seat to more relevant things like March Madness, but I can guarantee you it’s about to ramp up again as we get closer to the draft. UCF linebacker Shaquem Griffin is the story of the spring, the combine, and now the draft. Period.
Let’s recap it for a second: he was the best player on UCF’s “National Championship” defense. He won the AAC defensive player of the year and after all of that, doesn’t even get a combine invite until he showed out at the Senior Bowl. Then he shows up to the combine in Indy and puts on an absolute display.
Reminder: he working with one hand here.

Now it continues. He went from a guy who didn’t even get an initial combine invite, to shooting up draft boards after showing these scouts what a freak he is, to now getting an invite to Dallas for the draft. He announced it at UCF’s pro day today.

Last year, only 22 players got the invite. The year before it was 25. I’m assuming it’ll be around that number again. According to NFL.com, Griffin is looking like a third or fourth round pick right now, so him attending is rare.

However, Griffin will likely not hear his name called until the second or third day of the draft. NFL Network draft guru Chad Reuter has Griffin going to the Jaguars in the third round at No. 93. At this point, Griffin is seen as either a third- or fourth-round pick.

Thank God the NFL got something right.
